Praveena Mehtasan, the 18-year-old who went on a viral Facebook post about her experience in a medical college, died on Sunday.
She was one of four students to be admitted to the prestigious Delhi-based Medical College of India (MCI) in October, according to the website of the hospital.
Mehtasans mother and sister shared her story on social media on Monday and the video clip went viral.
She said the hospital did not treat her well, but her father and uncle helped her in spite of the fact that they were from the same family.
She posted a video message on Facebook on Monday saying that doctors told her she was having trouble breathing, but she did not know why.
“My parents are still alive and they are trying to reach my family to get me some medicine.
I hope that the world will respect me,” she said in the video.
The hospital did, however, offer to pay for her medical treatment.
According to the family, Mehtias parents, father and two brothers were working in a different industry and were in need of medical treatment for their ailments.
A local resident took care of the family.
The family has been trying to get help from the authorities to find an NGO that can help them, they added.
