The closure of elementary schools in south Cork has forced the closure of the entire local district.
The Cork District School Board has confirmed that all primary schools and boarding schools will remain closed on Tuesday evening.
The closures are expected to be lifted within the next few days.
A statement issued by the school board said that the closure would not affect any of the schools, which are located within the city of Cork, and that it would be necessary for the school to close on the following day.
This is due to the need to meet the statutory deadline for school closures.
A large number of school staff, who are required to attend the schools on a daily basis, will remain on site to maintain the schools facilities.
It is understood that the schools will reopen within the coming days, however, parents will need to make arrangements for transport.
The statement also confirmed that schools will be closed on the Thursday of April 1.
